Recent study shows that 95% of people quit on their fitness goals by the 25th of January.
You are probably wondering why I am giving you this statistic… Well, it’s because you may have a few things in common with this 95%… And I’ll make a wild guess that you, like everyone wants to know how to stay consistent with your goals. I want to help you see and feel what it’s like to dedicate yourself to something that you want and make it a reality.
Look, nobody starts a diet program or exercise plan with the intention to quit. But let’s face it, things happen, right?
The primary goal for this short blog is to help you overcome some challenges so that you become part of the 5% who actually stay consistent and eventually get the body and health that they desire.
So here are the obstacles as well as solutions that we all seem to encounter on our fitness journey….
Family and Friends
We all have people who love us and want the best for us. The last people who want to distract you from your goals are your family and friends. Although at times, they may unintentionally cause you to get off track and offer you unhealthy foods to eat or encourage you to skip a workout to spend your exercise time doing something else.
You cannot get rid of your family or friends, and I don’t advise you to try. Just set some clear boundaries to ensure they understand your goals and find ways to include them in your fitness journey.
Time and Obligations
Life is very busy. You have work, kids, errands, and other endeavors that require your full attention. All while aiming to get in the best shape of your life.
The best strategy to overcome this issue that everyone experiences is to set clear and manageable times that you can dedicate to your workouts. Times that fit your daily schedule and that work for you.
As far as nutrition, meal prepping is always a great place to start. Pick 1 or 2 days a week to cook your meals. This has two great benefits….
- You will know where your food came from and how it is prepared.
- You are more likely to get a sufficient amount of nutrients, increasing that you meet your daily nutritional goals.
Lack of Motivation
Staying excited about exercise and nutrition is difficult. Sometimes you just want to hang out on the couch and eat some vanilla ice cream and brownies. Or maybe a delicious stuffed crust pizza. Especially on those long stressful days. You might not even be able to find the energy to get up, get dressed, and make your way to the gym.
Motivation is fleeting… it comes, and it goes. I have found that people who reach the health and physique that makes them happy are continuously reminding themselves of their goals. Examples of how this is done is writing them down, having images of your dream body in places that you will be able to see every day. I have even seen some go as far as creating a vision board of not only what they want to look like, but also what life will look like when they actually accomplish their goal.
Keeping your goals in front of you will make certain that they stay on your mind. It’s a golden rule… Whatever we think about most usually manifests in our lives and becomes a reality.
Thanks for taking the time to read this. We all deserve great health. We all deserve to look and feel our best. Not just for us, but for our families and loved ones. The better we are physically and mentally, the better life around us tends to become. You may now be contemplating how you can overcome some of these common challenges yourself.
